To pierce or not to pierce: Trends, clothing, and does it really matter to God?
I have heard this all of my life "your body is a temple, so we are not to damage it with piercings and tattoos" but here is one point, are all of the women mentioned in the bible unworthy to God, because they all had piercings? Nose rings, ear rings, and a lot of other things people say are rebellious or inappropriate were fashion staples for women in the bible, yes, there were trends and fashion even in the bible days. I have been putting a lot of thought here lately into what kinds of fashions God would want us to wear....I know, your thinking "God doesn't care what we wear as long as our naughty bits aren't showing and no one really cares" but It really is important. It even says in the bible that we are to maintain a modest appearance... Amish modest, NO, but still modest.
Speaking of the Amish, they truly baffle me. I do not see where they get that every single modern thing is evil, here lately its been saving their butts! Plus, the clothes... They are impractical and have no biblical basis. I can see why they want them covering as to be modest, but in the biblical era, the only reason why they didn't wear brightly colored clothing was because they couldn't afford the expense of dyes, and the ones who could afford it, did. Most women's clothing was adorned with COLORED embroidery which was another big trend for them.
Back to the first thing. Another thing that the bible says is that men and women are to wear different clothes and that they shouldn't dress like the opposite sex, but where is the line for this? Do they mean individual pieces or the whole look? Is wearing a boy's wifebeater with a girlie pin breaking this rule? Or what about tailored suits? That's what I would really like to know.
