The war hits home...But just sort

Our town, being a large percent military, has just now received its first casualty...Sort. The man grew up here, but left in his early teens. He and his family didn't live here anymore, but he still came from here. I can't even imagine how horrible it must be for all of the families who have lost people in the war. What thoughts are running through their heads. The closest I have ever came was about a year ago, when I thought my ex had died in combat. My best friend had called me that evening because she was watching the news, and they had just announced that three soldiers out of my ex boyfriends unit had been killed in action and several others injured, and one fit his description, but names couldn't be released on the air, you had to go to a site. Even though we weren't together, I had loved him at one time and checked the site daily to make sure he was ok, he was, but I couldn't help but thinking how the families of these soldiers killed in combat feel. I sat there just moment earlier, regretting things that had happened between us and feeling so horrid, but imagine having the person you love more than anything, the person you planned on spending the rest of your life with torn away from you. That is a feeling I would wish upon no one, and wish could be prevented :(
