When did we all suddenly become adults?

I have suddenly became addicted to the show grey's anatomy(don't even ask me why because I have no idea) and this is a constant phrase ...Right now it totally makes sense to me. A few weeks ago was my big family birthday bash at a local night club. I was the only family member under 40 and I didn't really k now anyone in the club.... But it was interesting. Not because it was totally wild or anything, but just the fact that I saw people that I know and realized how more mature I am compared to them. Most were running around trying to hook up with strangers and over revealing themselves, while I on the other hand realize that the pic of your bare chest that "nice" guy just took will probably pop up on the net just as you finish law school.
here is another weird example of my behavior changes. I went to the movies with my friends sister the other day and was surprised when I ran into a girl from high school. We had been watching the ring 2 and I laughed so hard my mascara ran, so we went to the restroom. There, as I came out of between two stalls was my worst enemy from high school. See,when I say this, most people envision a scene from a teen movie where I come around the corner and am confronted with some skinny semi-pretty girl with a frown.....No, I wasn't lucky enough for it to be that one, It was the short roly-poly girl who was annoying and made it her goal to make every moment around me torture. After a snotty forced convo that had to be the longest 5 minutes of my life, I did something that shocked the crud out of me! When she snubbed my job( I was working at a high end bridal boutique as a seamstress) all I did was ask "what are you doing" nicely and smiled. She got so mad at this she ran away. Before, I would have told her how great I was doing and how I was better than her just to make her huffy, but I didn't.
It seems like you should be out driving fast and not having a care in the world then....When you least suspect it...BOOM!!!!! Maturity and responsibility hits you in the butt and the wallet! We need some sort of warning system for this. Something to predict when we become adults, when the realities of bills and social dry spells and having to care for other people sets in. Until then, we can rely on switching from Spongebob to Oprah and back again.
